What is an MVP? A 2026 Software Birth Guide for Founders and Corporate Innovators

"MVP" has been worn so thin in Turkey that founders often discover, mid-project, that they meant something different by it than the agency did. One person heard 4 weeks + 1 screen; the other heard 9 months + 30 screens.
A real MVP is not "the smallest thing we can ship." It is the smallest thing that can produce a validated answer to a high-priority assumption. If it doesn't generate a yes/no answer, it isn't an MVP.
What it is not: prototype/mockup (clickable, no real data), Proof of Concept (technical assumption only, no user), beta (full product). MVP sits between: real users, real payments where applicable, real outcome data.
Don't do an MVP if: regulatory blockers (health, payments licensing), single-shot enterprise pilot, brand reputation is paramount, network-effect product, or you can't read a pricing signal yet.

Success isn't shipping. It's measured: activation rate, D7/D30 retention, repeat-payment rate, NPS, validated/falsified hypotheses. If activation is sub-15% at week 12, the answer is rethinking core value, not adding features.
Contract pattern that works: fixed time + flexible scope, not fixed price + fixed scope (which fights MVP nature).
